dateline: Blue Ridge, GA March 21, 2007

Last evening I took my 6-year old daughter, Taylor, trout fishing on the Toccoa River property on which we are currently building Aska Adventure Outpost. After hearing reports from one of my employees that he caught approx 17 to 20 rainbow trout the evening before in a 45 minute span, we decided to give it a try. We arrived about 6:30pm to find my uncle, my employee and one of my subcontracters with their lines in the water and no shortage of boppers going under the water's surface. Yes, the Toccoa River is full of fish and it is Springtime again in the North Georgia Mountains! We had a glorious time just being with friends and of course, Taylor had the best time.

	We caught about half a dozen and Taylor ended up catching the biggest trout of the evening!

We then came home and cleaned the fish and pan fried this delectable meal in olive oil and butter with our favorite glaze (Apple Dill and Rosemary Glaze) from Butcher Tom's at Enchanted Mountain Trout and Gourmet Meats. It was a wonderful dinner!

I am always on the go but last night was such a wonderful experience and I recommend to all who are staying with us or just thinking about it. Spring has sprung in the wonderful mountains of North Georgia!

Dateline: March 31, 2007 Adventure Trail Rides

A couple of weeks ago my niece and her husband who are serving at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina came for a visit to the wonderful playground that is Blue Ridge, Georgia.

Amanda, my niece, thought it would be fun to take our daughter, Taylor, horseback riding at Adventure Trail Rides in Cashes Valley. Having had my own horse when I was young and working the weekend rodeo behind the Buckskin Lounge in Tucson, Arizona when I was Taylor's age, we thought this particularly beautiful spring day was the day to introduce Taylor to horses. She has been asking us to take her horseback riding for so long, so you can imagine her excitement and anticipation!

When we drove up to Adventure Trail Rides there were all kinds of barn animals roaming about and the horse wranglers, guides, and guests were lounging around waiting for the ride to begin. We met Derrick who was head of this outfit, and he was so very nice and helpful. Taylor and I walked around as she petted the animals and the horses. It was a great time and brought back lots of memories of my youth - something I long for my daughter to be a part of - a simpler life of honesty, hard work, and responsibility, as well as so much fun.

As it was time to saddle up, Taylor decided the horses were just too big for her to ride on this day, so we walked around and let the rest of our group go off and ride. We then decided to go get an ice cream cone at the Dairy Queen. A little later we went back and picked up our group who had rave reviews for Adventure Trail Rides. They had such a great time, and were so sore the next day! They had great stories of their particular horse's personalities and the beautiful scenery. Even though Taylor didn't ride, she was thrilled to be a part of this event. We'll just keep trying again and continue to get used to the horses until she is comfortable to ride. We are so grateful to be a part of this beautiful countryside and lifestyle!
